Nationality Law

  • Nationality law defines who is a citizen of a country and how people can gain that citizenship
  • Under British nationality law, this might be through birth, descent or registration:
  • Birth in the UK when one parent was British or had indefinite stay (settled status) under immigration law
  • Birth outside the UK but one parent was a British citizen at the time of the birth, and had gained citizenship in the UK
  • Applying to the Home Office to become British
